Every March, the walls of the Montgomery Museum look a little different — brighter, more colorful, and honestly just more fun to walk through. That’s because theMontgomery County Public Schools Student Art Exhibit is back, and it brings together artwork from students across the county in one shared community space.

Instead of artwork staying in the hallways of each school, this exhibit gives students the chance to see their work displayed in a real gallery setting. For a lot of kids, it’s the first time their creativity is seen outside the classroom — and families tend to circle the room a few extra times making sure they didn’t miss their child’s piece.

The show includes work from elementary, middle, and high school students and is curated by local elementary art teachers. You’ll see everything from bright early-grade paintings to detailed upper-grade pieces that look far beyond their years.

The Montgomery Museum hosts the exhibit each year as a way to connect young artists with the wider community and highlight the role art plays in student growth.

“Featuring artwork outside the school building recognizes students' accomplishments and fosters a connection with their community,” said art teacher and Arts Advisory Committee member Linda Hinson.

Even if your child doesn’t have a piece in the show, it’s an easy outing — quick to walk through and always interesting. Kids love finding familiar names on labels, and younger siblings usually leave asking for paper and markers when they get home.

It’s also a good reminder of just how much talent sits inside our local schools.

Stop by after school, make an evening of the reception, or add it to a weekend errand run. The exhibit is open to the public, and you don’t need an invitation — just curiosity.
