.If your kids light up every time they see a fire truck, dump truck, excavator, or police cruiser, there's one event they'll definitely want on the calendar.
Touch-A-Truck NRV returns on Saturday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the back parking lot of Uptown Christiansburg (782 New River Road) for another day of hands-on family fun. Hosted by the New River Valley Home Builders Association, this annual event gives children the chance to climb inside, explore, and learn about dozens of vehicles while meeting the people who build, protect, and serve our community.
One of the things families appreciate most is the event's Horn & Siren Free Hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this time, participating vehicles keep lights and sirens off, creating a more comfortable experience for children with sensory sensitivities or anyone who simply prefers a quieter atmosphere.
What You’ll Find at Touch-A-Truck:
There's plenty to keep kids busy all day long, including:
- Dozens of construction vehicles, emergency vehicles, utility trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment to explore
- Opportunities to meet firefighters, police officers, construction professionals, and other local heroes
- NEW! Touch-a-Trade Zone, where kids can enjoy hands-on activities while learning about careers in the skilled trades
- Setter Construction Build Station, where children can build their own project with a suggested $5 donation benefiting local scholarships
- Interactive activities and exhibits from local businesses and community organizations
- Food vendors and refreshments throughout the event
- Complimentary bottled water available at multiple locations thanks to SAS Builders
- A convenient digital event map to help families find their favorite vehicles and activities.
Admission
Admission is simple this year:
- Children: FREE
- Adults: $5
New for 2026: Adults can receive free admission by bringing three non-perishable food items to donate as part of the Setter Construction Food Drive, which will benefit Feeding Southwest Virginia. It's an easy way to enjoy a fun family outing while helping neighbors in our community.
More Than Just a Fun Day
While the trucks are the biggest attraction, Touch-A-Truck NRV also has an important mission.
Proceeds from the event support the New River Valley Home Builders Association Building Futures Foundation, which provides scholarships for local students pursuing careers in construction and the skilled trades. The foundation also funds the Constructing Careers Grant Program, helping area classrooms create hands-on projects that introduce students to construction skills and career opportunities.
Whether your child dreams of driving a fire truck, operating an excavator, or simply loves anything with big wheels, Touch-A-Truck NRV offers a memorable day of exploration while supporting future workforce development right here in the New River Valley.
